The pursuit of material wealth is often accompanied by deep anxiety, whereas a life rooted in the fear of God offers a profound sense of peace and security. Fearing God grants a person a life filled with satisfaction, calm, and divine protection. This promise of life exists on two levels: a long, physical existence in this world and eternal life in the world to come [רלב״ג, עמנואל הרומי]. Ordinary worldly fears, such as a wealthy person worrying about thieves, often disrupt sleep, ruin the appetite, and ultimately shorten a person's days. In contrast, the fear of God strips away all these earthly anxieties, replacing them with a sense of security that leads to a longer life [מלבי״ם, אלשיך]. The desire to achieve this secure life is sometimes the very reason a person chooses to revere God in the first place [אבן עזרא].

This spiritual path leads to a permanent and constant state of physical and mental tranquility [מצודת ציון]. A God-fearing person eats until satisfied, sleeps peacefully, and remains genuinely content with their lot [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This deep satisfaction occurs because the fear of God naturally suppresses the urge to chase after physical desires and shameful behaviors, ensuring the person never suffers from spiritual emptiness or hunger [רלב״ג]. Conversely, an individual whose sole purpose is to accumulate worldly possessions will inevitably suffer from constant worry over their wealth. This obsession causes them to forget their Creator and ultimately brings disaster upon themselves [עמנואל הרומי].

The fear of God also serves as a shield against harm. Because this awe prevents a person from sinning, they are spared from punishments and worldly troubles. Beyond physical protection, the divine goodness bestowed upon them is so overwhelming that they completely forget any past sorrows, and negative thoughts no longer even enter their mind [אבן עזרא, רלב״ג, מצודת דוד].

A final layer of meaning applies to the time after death. When the righteous depart from this world, their souls are fully satisfied by the future rewards revealed to them and by their connection to the divine radiance. As they rest peacefully, they remain entirely untouched by any form of evil, whether physical decay or spiritual punishment [אלשיך, עמנואל הרומי].
