Divine wisdom promises profound rewards for those who embrace it, drawing a sharp distinction between ordinary material success and possessions of eternal value. The primary approach among commentators is that wisdom offers a completely different kind of prosperity. Ordinary wealth is fleeting and often slips away from its owner, but the riches gained through wisdom are characterized by strength, abundance, and enduring power [אבן עזרא, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This prosperity is lasting, accompanying a person even into eternity. Similarly, while ordinary honor is frequently acquired through unjust means, the honor bestowed by wisdom is rooted in moral integrity, true success, and a genuine relationship with God [אבן עזרא, מלבי״ם, רלב״ג, עמנואל הרומי].

There is a deep connection between this lasting wealth and righteous action. Unlike those who hoard ordinary riches as misers or lose their fortunes to sudden disasters, a wise person manages his money differently. He enjoys his portion with a joyful spirit and distributes the rest to those in need. Paradoxically, it is this very act of giving that makes his wealth secure and permanent. Once money is given to charity, no outside force can ever take it away [אמרי דעת]. Ultimately, wisdom refines a person's character, guiding him to attain both wealth and honor in a completely honest and wholesome manner [רלב״ג].

Some commentators view these promises through the lens of rewards in this life compared to the next. In this view, wealth represents the physical possessions acquired in this world, while honor symbolizes the spiritual dignity awaiting the soul in the afterlife [עמנואל הרומי]. Wisdom assures a person of abundant, secure prosperity in this world, granted by God as a reward for proper actions. Furthermore, it offers a crucial guarantee that enjoying this earthly wealth will not diminish or damage the ultimate spiritual reward kept safe for him in the world to come [אלשיך, מצודת דוד].
