Human wickedness and arrogance do not always stem from a simple desire to cause harm. Instead, they often grow from a deeply held worldview that there is no ultimate justice and no supreme judge. A direct link exists between a lack of belief in divine providence and the sheer audacity to act proudly and harm others. The core question is what actually motivates this behavior, a reality that sparks profound wonder and astonishment at the sheer arrogance of a person who dares to act in such a way [אבן עזרא].

The reason a wicked person blasphemes God and fills his heart with such defiance [מצודת דוד] lies entirely within his own inner thoughts. The primary approach among commentators is that the wicked convinces himself that God simply does not pay attention. He believes God has no interest in humanity and will never investigate or demand an account for his actions. To him, the world is a lawless place where bad behavior goes unpunished [רד"ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ, מאירי].

Believing that God ignores the world leads to a complete denial of His ability to act or even be aware of a person's hidden thoughts [מלבי"ם]. This spiritual disconnection has a clear social impact. Filled with pride, the wicked person assumes God will never hold him accountable for ignoring the poor and the weak [אלשיך]. Yet, the truth is entirely the opposite. God carefully watches not only public actions but also private intentions. He actively demands justice in order to remove evil from the world and guide sinners back toward the right path [מלבי"ם].
