Psalms 78:4Sefaria

The continuity of faith relies entirely on the steady transmission of spiritual and historical heritage from one generation to the next. Those who carry this tradition have a strict duty to share it openly, without hiding or withholding any part of the truth This responsibility is directed toward the children of our ancestors, meaning fellow Israelites who have not yet learned their own history. Anyone equipped with this knowledge must actively teach those who are uninformed. By doing so, they create an unbroken chain of education that stretches down to the very latest generations

This method of passing down information is uniquely open. While other ancient nations guarded their religious secrets, reserving them only for their elders and priests, the Torah is taught publicly to all children. The content of these teachings also stands in sharp contrast to the surrounding cultures. Instead of sharing flawed, fictional tales about idols, the Israelites recount the praises of God, focusing on His great strength and power They pass down the true wonders that He actually performed in history [מלבי״ם].

Since these events are already recorded in the Torah, one might wonder why there is a need to constantly retell them. The answer lies in the purpose of the storytelling. While someone might recite God's praises and mighty acts simply as a historical record, the true goal here is much deeper. These stories are meant to serve as a moral lesson and a direct warning. By taking these past events to heart, the listeners learn vital lessons, ensuring they do not repeat the tragic mistakes of their ancestors [אלשיך].
