Passing down the traditions and stories of past miracles is not merely an exercise in history. It is meant to create a complete spiritual process that begins with memory and ends in action. Learning about the wonders God performed inspires future generations to develop deep faith in Him. The primary approach among commentators is that this knowledge fosters genuine trust and hope. By listening to these historical accounts, the Israelites learn to place their complete reliance on God, recognizing Him as their ultimate source of strength. This trust also includes the firm belief that God will actively protect them from all harm [מלבי״ם].

To sustain this relationship, the memory of God's actions must be preserved constantly. When the Israelites actively remember what God has done and refuse to let those events fade from mind, it naturally leads to a practical outcome: they are moved to guard and fulfill His commandments. Ultimately, holding onto the memory of past miracles and maintaining trust in God serve as the essential foundation required for a life of observing the Torah [רד״ק, אבן עזרא ומצודת דוד].
