Following the rejection of His previous sanctuary in the territory of Ephraim, God initiated a profound historical and spiritual shift to establish a permanent center for the Israelites. This divine selection focused on two deeply connected and complementary elements: a chosen tribe and a sacred location.

God selected the tribe of Judah primarily because it was the ancestral line of King David, who serves as the central figure for whom the entire psalm was composed [אבן עזרא, רד״ק]. This decision regarding the tribe was completely intertwined with the selection of the physical location. God specifically chose Judah so that the permanent Temple would be built within the borders of its tribal inheritance [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The connection to Mount Zion goes beyond mere geography. God actively combined the spiritual merit of the tribe of Judah together with the inherent merit of Mount Zion, uniting the people and the place into a single purpose [אלשיך].

The deep love God has for Mount Zion traces back to the very beginning of time. His Divine Presence has rested upon this specific site since the dawn of history and the creation of the world [אלשיך]. Furthermore, this enduring love is anchored in the ancient historical holiness of the mountain, as it is the exact location where the binding of Isaac occurred [מצודת דוד].
