The vision of the great statue reaches its final stage at its base, representing the end of days for the world's empires. The image of the toes reveals a deep lack of unity within the fourth and final kingdom. These toes are formed from a mixture of opposing materials: iron, a symbol of strength and power, combined with clay, a highly fragile substance. This shows that the final era of this kingdom will be deeply divided. Parts of it will stand firm and powerful like iron, while other parts will remain weak and easily broken like clay [מצודת דוד, יוסף אבן יחיא, שטיינזלץ].

Historically and conceptually, this final stage points to a time when global power will shift. The ten toes represent ten distinct kingdoms existing at the exact same time. The era of a single global superpower ruling the world alone will come to an end. Instead, authority will be scattered among ten different rulers, including the princes of Ishmael and kings from the East and the West [אבן עזרא, מלבי״ם].

The blending of iron and clay represents more than just an external division; it points to a deep, internal fracture. The divide between strong and weak will exist within every single nation, with powerful kings rising right alongside weak ones [מלבי״ם]. Furthermore, the weakness will be woven directly into the strength itself. Even within the most powerful parts of the empire, hidden cracks and vulnerabilities will emerge. The delicate fragility of the clay will constantly be present even within the solid centers of iron power [אלשיך].
