After Ahaziah passed away, Jehu permitted the fallen king's servants to transport his body back to Jerusalem. This allowed him to be laid to rest in his capital, receiving a burial that honored the traditions of the kings of Judah [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Upon arriving in Jerusalem, the burial arrangements followed a specific plan. Ahaziah was placed in a distinct, personal burial estate. He had already dug and prepared this exact resting place for himself while he was still alive [מצודת דוד].
