מלכים ב, פרק ט׳, פסוק ל״ד

II Kings 9:34Sefaria

Following the death of Jezebel, Jehu steps into Ahab's palace and sits down to a meal, acting as the new master of the estate and making himself completely at home [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. While eating, or shortly after, his attention turns back to the woman who was just killed. He orders his men to attend to the cursed woman and ensure she receives a proper burial [מצודת דוד].

The decision to bury her is driven by her royal lineage as a king's daughter. Having already paid the ultimate price and received the punishment for her sins [אברבנאל], she is granted a measure of basic dignity. Morality dictates that a person should not be treated with disgrace after death [מצודת דוד]. Even though Jezebel descended from foreign kings rather than Israelite royalty, ethical standards still require showing respect to anyone who held a position of honor within their own nation [רד״ק].

Notably, Jehu justifies her right to a burial strictly through her father's royal bloodline, completely ignoring her status as the wife of the king of Israel. This omission is intentional. Because Jezebel was the direct cause of her husband Ahab's downfall and death, ultimately leading to the ruin of his kingdom, she forfeited any right to receive honor through her connection to him [רד״ק].
