As a distant convoy draws near, the watchman on duty observes a shifting dynamic on the horizon. The messenger sent to meet the group has been absorbed into their ranks and shows no sign of returning. At the same time, the watchman is able to identify the leader of the group simply by observing the way the lead chariot is being driven. The driving style is highly distinctive and immediately recognized as belonging to Jehu.

The primary approach among commentators is that Jehu was known for driving in a wild, chaotic, and reckless manner, completely lacking caution or order. However, an entirely opposite tradition exists regarding his unique habits on the road. According to this alternative view, Jehu's signature style was actually moderate, slow, and calm [רד ק בשם תרגום יונתן]. Furthermore, when identifying Jehu by his family line, he is linked to Nimshi. This connection does not indicate a direct relationship between a father and a son; rather, Jehu was the grandson of Nimshi [מצודת דוד].
