I Kings 22:42Sefaria

The historical records of the kings often present specific details about their age, the length of their rule, and their family background. In the case of Jehoshaphat, these facts reveal deeper insights into the nature of his leadership and his personal life. Although the king ruled for twenty-five years, this period was not a continuous block of time. Instead, his years on the throne were fragmented [מצודת דוד].

The account also identifies his mother, providing a detail that is not merely biographical but serves as a window into a difficult family dynamic. Her recorded name actually hints that she was deeply disliked by her son. Jehoshaphat abandoned her and sent her away from his home, refusing to follow her ways. In fact, she was called by her specific name precisely because of these painful actions, serving as a permanent record of her being forsaken and banished by the king [אברבנאל].
