Facing immense pressure to conform to a royal agenda and the unified voices of hundreds of false prophets, Micaiah takes a firm stand. He declares his absolute loyalty to the truth, making it clear that the king's expectations will not dictate his message [שטיינזלץ]. He refuses to be intimidated by his minority status and will not back down before the overwhelming majority of other prophets [אלשיך]. To solidify his position, he takes a solemn oath. Swearing by God, he promises that he will only speak the exact words that God commands him to say [שטיינזלץ].

This dramatic vow raises a significant question about the events that immediately follow. Shortly after making this strict promise, Micaiah tells the king to go to battle and succeed, echoing the exact words of the false prophets. This apparent contradiction is resolved by understanding the boundaries of prophetic speech. The strict prohibition against speaking an untruth only applies when a prophet speaks explicitly in the name of God. When the king initially approaches Micaiah, he asks a casual question without requesting a message in God's name. Because of this, Micaiah allows himself to simply repeat the popular message of the false prophets, carefully avoiding any mention of God [אלשיך, חומת אנך].

The king immediately notices this omission. He understands that the missing divine name means Micaiah is hiding the actual truth, as a genuine prophecy is recognized by being delivered explicitly in the name of God. Realizing he is being given an empty answer, the king is forced to demand that Micaiah swear to speak only the truth in God's name. Only after this specific demand does Micaiah fulfill his original oath and deliver the true prophecy [אלשיך].
