וְאַתָּ֣ה פַשְׁח֗וּר וְכֹל֙ יֹשְׁבֵ֣י בֵיתֶ֔ךָ תֵּלְכ֖וּ בַּשֶּׁ֑בִי וּבָבֶ֣ל תָּב֗וֹא וְשָׁ֤ם תָּמוּת֙ וְשָׁ֣ם תִּקָּבֵ֔ר אַתָּה֙ וְכׇל־אֹֽהֲבֶ֔יךָ אֲשֶׁר־נִבֵּ֥אתָ לָהֶ֖ם בַּשָּֽׁקֶר׃ {פ}

A false leader who trades in comforting lies ultimately leads his followers into the very disaster he denied. Pashhur, a prominent member of the priestly family, faces a severe personal judgment of exile and death in Babylon. This fate is a direct punishment for his actions. He did not merely serve as an official in the House of God; he presented himself as a prophet promising freedom, while actively punishing Jeremiah for delivering frightening warnings of destruction [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. By pretending to be a true prophet and feeding the people false promises, he sealed his own doom [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The judgment extends beyond Pashhur to his devoted followers. While earlier warnings indicated that these loyalists would fall in battle, their ultimate destination is also revealed to be Babylon. Those who somehow manage to survive the slaughter in Jerusalem will be taken captive, only to meet their end in exile. The sweeping decree against his supporters indicates that a great many of them, though perhaps not every single individual without exception, will share in this grim captivity and demise [רד״ק].

The final pronouncement of Pashhur's punishment carries a chilling emphasis, detailing that he will both die and be buried in exile. Mentioning his burial immediately after his death might seem repetitive, but it serves as a distinct and severe curse. Being laid to rest in a foreign, impure land is a punishment of its own [רד״ק]. It stands as an absolute guarantee that this false prophet will never return to the Land of Israel, neither during his life nor after his passing [מלבי״ם].
