Proverbs 8:21Sefaria

Divine wisdom promises a profound and lasting reward for those who choose to follow its paths. When a person aligns their life with wisdom, justice, and righteousness, they are guided toward the highest level of human perfection, ultimately earning an unmatched reward [אמרי דעת].

The nature of this promised inheritance is understood in two complementary ways. One perspective views it as a promise of vast abundance, noting that God holds a great and generous inheritance to bestow upon those who love Him This can even include material prosperity such as wealth, gold, and precious stones However, the primary approach among commentators focuses on a deeper reality. Unlike temporary worldly gains that eventually fade away, wisdom and righteousness grant a person an acquisition that is true, strong, and eternally permanent

The promise of filled treasuries unfolds across both intellectual and spiritual dimensions. On an intellectual level, these are storehouses of the mind and spirit. Wisdom satisfies the thirst of those who seek it by providing choice knowledge, resolving all doubts, and granting complete clarity of thought

On a spiritual level, this points directly to the World to Come and the ultimate reward of the soul. Just as a person might hoard physical wealth for difficult times, one accumulates spiritual treasures that will stand to their credit and protect their soul in judgment [אמרי דעת]. At times, God may even withhold a person's reward in this temporary world so that their spiritual treasuries can be completely filled in the World to Come, allowing the principal reward and the fruits of their good deeds to be combined [אלשיך]. Finally, this promise reveals a profound layer of divine kindness. While the eternal inheritance itself is the natural, exact compensation for a person's good deeds according to strict justice, the filling of these treasuries represents additional, precious gifts. God grants these extra blessings out of pure grace, going far beyond what is earned through justice alone [מלבי״ם].
