תהלים, פרק ע״ב, פסוק י״א

Psalms 72:11Sefaria

וְיִשְׁתַּחֲווּ־ל֥וֹ כׇל־מְלָכִ֑ים כׇּל־גּוֹיִ֥ם יַעַבְדֽוּהוּ׃

The vision of an ideal kingdom reaches its peak when it achieves universal recognition. World leaders, their citizens, and even the most distant societies willingly accept the authority of a truly righteous ruler. Moving beyond the submission of specific local rulers, a broad reality emerges where every world leader yields to this king. Naturally, the citizens governed by these leaders follow suit and accept his rule as well [אבן עזרא].

This dynamic reveals a gradual, deepening respect for the king. Initially, foreign leaders might simply send gifts from afar. Eventually, however, they travel to bow before him in person. Ultimately, this respect filters down to their nations, who commit to serving him with the true dedication of servants working for a master [אלשיך]. Historically, a practical glimpse of this reality occurred during the reign of King Solomon, when people from all over the world sought an audience with him and arrived bearing gifts [רש״י].

The primary approach among commentators is that this widespread submission is entirely voluntary. It is not driven by fear or the threat of a powerful military. Instead, people willingly choose to follow the king's guidance. The obedience and service offered by these foreign leaders and their nations are genuine expressions of deep appreciation for the king's wisdom, his personal virtues, and his honesty. His leadership radiates a positive, blessed influence that naturally draws the entire world to him.
