Designing the entrance to the courtyard of the Tabernacle required a practical solution to ensure smooth passage into the sacred compound. Four pillars supported the main entrance screen. These pillars stood on sturdy copper bases, while their upper sections and connecting hardware, including the hooks, top overlays, and bands, were crafted entirely from silver.
The regular curtains enclosing the courtyard were firmly fastened to their pillars to create a fixed boundary. The entrance screen, however, was designed differently. It was tied to the pillars only at the top. This deliberate arrangement allowed the bottom of the screen to be easily pushed aside, making it simple for anyone to walk freely between the pillars and enter the holy space [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
