Jeremiah 30:15Sefaria

When a nation faces devastating ruin, the natural response is to cry out in agony, often feeling as though the suffering is an unjust or random affliction. Yet, the divine response to this outcry serves as a piercing reality check, clarifying that the crushing blows are not accidental, but the direct consequence of the people's own choices. God addresses the collective nation, questioning their bitter complaints. They cry out over their severe, incurable pain as if they have been struck for absolutely no reason. However, the tragic truth is that they have no one to blame but themselves

The root of their suffering lies in a deep spiritual decay, understood by examining two distinct categories of wrongdoing. Normally, there are offenses committed intentionally out of a corrupted mindset, which are severe but less frequent. On the other hand, there are missteps driven by physical desire or carelessness, which happen often but carry less severe weight. The nation, however, has reached a state of double disgrace. Their intentional, malicious betrayals have multiplied to an enormous frequency, while their everyday, desire-driven mistakes have intensified to the level of capital crimes [מלבי״ם].

Confronted with this grim spiritual reality, God makes it clear that He brought this devastation upon them. The agonizing hardships they endure are not arbitrary punishments, but rather a completely just and fitting consequence for the overwhelming number and sheer magnitude of their actions [מצודת דוד].
