Psalms 139:13Sefaria

Reflecting on the earliest moments of human existence reveals a deep, unbreakable bond between a person and the Creator. Because the most hidden physical and conscious spaces are shaped by God even in the darkness of the womb, it is impossible for any secret or thought to remain hidden from His view. The act of bringing a life into being is universally understood by commentators not as a mere acquisition, but as a profound creation of something out of nothing, much like the creation of heaven and earth

When considering the formation of the human body, the focus often turns to its most internal elements, specifically the kidneys. The primary approach among commentators is that these organs serve as the very source of human thought, advice, and wisdom Since God Himself formed this center of human consciousness, He naturally knows every underlying intention and needs no external tools to understand a person's mind [מלבי״ם]. This idea also carries a spiritual dimension, suggesting that God fills a person with wisdom while still in the womb. This connects to the tradition that an unborn child learns the entire Torah while surrounded by a divine light [אלשיך].

Other scholars approach this from a strictly physical perspective, noting that these internal organs simply represent the deepest, most hidden parts of the human body Another perspective focuses on the stages of human development, suggesting these are the very first organs to form, acting as the physical foundation of the body or as the biological source of human desire and reproduction

Throughout this entire developmental process, God acts as a protective shield He carefully covers the developing life with skin, flesh, bones, and sinews This intricate formation takes place in the absolute darkness of a mother's womb. Ultimately, the reality that God creates, shapes, and protects a human being in such a completely dark and hidden environment serves as the ultimate proof that no amount of darkness or secrecy can ever conceal anything from Him
