זכריה, פרק ח׳, פסוק כ׳

Zechariah 8:20Sefaria

In the End of Days, Jerusalem is destined to undergo a profound transformation, evolving into a global center that draws people from all corners of the earth to seek true faith. This vision of the future is a direct continuation of earlier prophecies [אבן עזרא], pointing toward a time that is still to come [מצודת דוד, רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ], specifically the Messianic era [רד״ק, מלבי״ם].

The promise serves as a powerful response to those who looked down upon the Second Temple and mocked the lowly state of the Israelites among the nations. It carries a clear message: if the people improve their actions, their spiritual standing will rise so high that the nations of the world will naturally flock to them [אברבנאל]. The masses arriving in Jerusalem will be diverse, including entire nations and large alliances of cities, alongside individuals from independent towns who make the journey on their own [אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Their shared goal is to seek God, a process that will unfold in distinct stages. As the time of redemption nears, different nations will first recognize the unique holiness of Jerusalem and travel there to pray, initially doing so according to their own distinct beliefs. As time goes on, they will begin to actively search for the foundations of true faith within the city. This search will happen even if the Israelites still appear lowly in their eyes and the nations do not yet approach them directly for answers [מלבי״ם]. Ultimately, this spiritual journey will lead the world to seek direct guidance from the house of God, much like ancient delegations that once traveled to consult with priests and prophets [אברבנאל].
