זכריה, פרק ח׳, פסוק כ״ג

Zechariah 8:23Sefaria

כֹּֽה־אָמַר֮ יְהֹוָ֣ה צְבָאוֹת֒ בַּיָּמִ֣ים הָהֵ֔מָּה אֲשֶׁ֤ר יַחֲזִ֙יקוּ֙ עֲשָׂרָ֣ה אֲנָשִׁ֔ים מִכֹּ֖ל לְשֹׁנ֣וֹת הַגּוֹיִ֑ם וְֽהֶחֱזִ֡יקוּ בִּכְנַף֩ אִ֨ישׁ יְהוּדִ֜י לֵאמֹ֗ר נֵֽלְכָה֙ עִמָּכֶ֔ם כִּ֥י שָׁמַ֖עְנוּ אֱלֹהִ֥ים עִמָּכֶֽם׃ {פ}

A profound spiritual transformation will one day sweep across the globe, as people from all nations recognize the truth of the Israelite faith and actively seek to follow God's path. A vast multitude of former idol worshippers, speaking every language, will step forward on their own initiative [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The mention of ten men is not a literal headcount, but rather a symbol representing this massive, overwhelming crowd [אבן עזרא, רד"ק].

In a literal, physical gesture of devotion, these multitudes will take firm hold of the hem of a Jew's garment [מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The term "Jew" here represents the entire nation of Israel, a title rooted in the historical and future monarchy of the tribe of Judah [מצודת ציון]. There is deep symbolism in grasping the very corner of the clothing. The nations will specifically identify the Jewish people by the fringes on the corners of their garments, recognizing them as a testament to the observance of the Commandments and a sign that God's presence rests upon them [מלבי"ם].

Holding onto this garment, the nations will ask to walk alongside them. This plea carries several complementary layers of meaning. On a physical level, it is a request to journey together to the Land of Israel, the ancestral heritage [מצודת דוד]. On a deeper level, it reflects a desire for spiritual guidance, seeking to join, connect with, and assist the people of Israel [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. Furthermore, it marks a significant spiritual evolution. The nations will realize that they do not need to travel specifically to Jerusalem to seek God. Instead, they will turn to the Jewish people wherever they are, understanding that the Divine presence is not confined to a single location, but dwells wherever Israel is found [מלבי"ם].

Regarding when this grand vision will unfold, interpretations vary. While it is often viewed as a prophecy for the distant future, another approach suggests that these events are directly tied to the immediate era in which the prophecy was given [אבן עזרא].
