As the angel continues to reveal great and lofty prophecies about times far ahead, the intensity takes a profound physical toll on Daniel. He is unable to contain the spiritual power of such exalted visions, causing his physical strength to fail once again [מלבי״ם].

Overcome by this extreme weakness [יוסף אבן יחיא], Daniel lowers his face toward the ground [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The experience leaves him completely mute, stripping away his ability to speak or even react [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This paralyzing silence and physical helplessness are the result of a deep, gripping fear brought on by the sight of the angel [מצודת דוד], combined with a total exhaustion of his physical body, which simply lacks the strength to endure the revelation [יוסף אבן יחיא].
