When disaster strikes a land, the presence of exceptionally righteous people might normally offer hope for the broader society. Yet, the message regarding the three specific men living in the land is straightforward and speaks for itself [רד״ק]. God swears that these individuals will survive the impending destruction entirely alone.
Although one might expect their personal merit to protect at least their families, the strict measure of justice dictates otherwise. Their good deeds are enough to secure their own survival, but this merit does not obligate God to shield their sons and daughters from the disaster [מצודת דוד].
