The narrative focus now shifts to the royal succession within the Kingdom of Judah. Amaziah takes the throne in Jerusalem, establishing a rule characterized by doing what is right in the eyes of God, much like his father before him [אברבנאל].
This transition of power presents a unique chronological alignment between the neighboring kingdoms. Joash, the king of Israel, actually began his rule while his father was still alive, governing alongside him for about two years. However, the official count of his reign only begins after his father's passing. His first year as the sole ruler of Israel aligned precisely with the thirty-ninth year of the reign of Joash, the king of Judah. Because the king of Judah ruled for a total of forty years, his final year in power, which ended with his death and the passing of the crown to his son Amaziah, occurred exactly during the second year of the independent reign of the king of Israel [רד״ק, מצודת דוד].
