ישעיהו, פרק ל״ג, פסוק ה׳

Following the miraculous downfall of the Assyrian army, a profound spiritual transformation takes root in Jerusalem. The sudden salvation puts God's immense strength and greatness on full display. The primary approach among commentators is that by defeating the enemy so decisively, God causes the surrounding nations to recognize the miracle and exalt His name [רש"י, רד"ק, שד"ל, אברבנאל]. From a slightly different angle, this display of power is deeply connected to the Divine Presence resting within Zion itself [אבן עזרא].

God's absolute superiority is made clear through His position high above all earthly conflicts [רש"י, מצודת ציון]. Just as a person in a higher position holds a natural advantage in a physical battle, God, who dwells in the heavens, holds the ultimate upper hand [מצודת דוד]. From this elevated place, He easily humbles the arrogant Assyrian forces while lifting up the vulnerable people of Zion [רד"ק]. These events serve as absolute proof of His supreme authority [שד"ל].

The direct result of this miraculous rescue is a deep moral change. The primary approach among commentators notes that witnessing such wonders inspires sinners to return to God, and from that day forward, the people of Zion dedicate themselves to justice and righteousness. God fills the city with these spiritual treasures, which hold far greater value than any physical spoils of war [מלבי"ם].
