ישעיהו, פרק מ״ה, פסוק י״ז

Isaiah 45:17Sefaria

יִשְׂרָאֵל֙ נוֹשַׁ֣ע בַּֽיהֹוָ֔ה תְּשׁוּעַ֖ת עוֹלָמִ֑ים לֹא־תֵבֹ֥שׁוּ וְלֹא־תִכָּלְמ֖וּ עַד־ע֥וֹלְמֵי עַֽד׃ {פ}

The salvation of the Israelites is guaranteed and eternal because it rests entirely upon God. This stands in sharp contrast to the fate of those who place their trust in idols, a path that leads only to disappointment. This salvation is not a distant promise but an ongoing, present reality brought about directly by God [שדל]. Because God Himself acts as the savior, the resulting deliverance is stable, enduring, and permanent [חומת אנך].

The prophet conveys the completeness of this salvation through a precise parallel, shifting his voice to speak directly to the people [רדק]. First, the assurance of salvation means that because the Israelites receive the deliverance they hoped for, they will never experience internal shame or personal disappointment. Second, because this deliverance comes directly from the great God, they are protected from external disgrace and will never suffer insult or humiliation from other nations [מלבים].

This secure reality is the exact opposite of what awaits those who craft idols. Idol makers create empty objects completely powerless to offer help in times of trouble. Consequently, their ultimate fate is to face the very shame and disgrace from which the Israelites are spared [אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד, מלבים].

The completeness of this salvation is ultimately sealed by its timelessness. Just as the deliverance is permanent, the protection from shame and public disgrace is absolute and will last forever [מלבים]. The primary approach among commentators is that this describes a continuous reality spanning all of time. This period of eternal protection is so vast that it surpasses human comprehension, making it impossible for anyone to count or even capture in words [אבן עזרא].
