Hazor once served as the central seat of power over the tent-dwelling tribes of Kedar [מצודת דוד]. However, this prominent city is destined for complete destruction. The devastation will not be contained to the city alone. The entire desert region located along the eastern and southern borders of the land of Israel will be transformed into an absolute wasteland [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
In the wake of this ruin, the city will become a permanent dwelling place for snakes [מצודת ציון]. The destruction will be so thorough that human presence will be entirely erased. No one will settle in the area permanently, and travelers will not even use the land for a brief stay or makeshift lodging [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון].
