God's providence in the world is powerfully demonstrated through His ability to uncover what is deeply hidden and to bring light to places of absolute darkness. He reaches into the deepest shadows—even the darkness of the grave—and exposes what lies concealed within [ביאור שטיינזלץ, מצודת ציון]. Commentators offer two primary ways to understand the nature of this divine revelation.
The first approach views this dynamic as the granting of profound wisdom and understanding. God opens human eyes to grasp complex ideas that are normally beyond reach. Concepts that were once entirely obscured and dark become clear when God blesses a person with the intellectual capacity to deduce new insights from existing knowledge [מצודת דוד, תקות אנוש]. This reflects the broader reality that God uncovers deep, hidden mysteries and intimately knows everything concealed in the dark [תקות אנוש].
In contrast, another perspective understands this revelation as the exposure of human malice and secret schemes. From this viewpoint, the hidden depths represent wicked advice and dark secrets buried deep within the human heart. When God forces these secrets into the open, the destructive shadow of death that accompanies them is also exposed. For instance, this refers to the uncovering of plots made by bitter, lowly individuals who secretly conspire to ruin noble people and steal their wealth [מלבי״ם]. On a historical level, this exposure of evil is linked to the cruelty of Pharaoh's advisors. They secretly devised a dark plan to throw the Israelite children into the river. God brought their hidden conspiracy into the light and ultimately judged them with water, matching their punishment exactly to their crime [אלשיך].
