Job 7:6Sefaria

From the depths of immense suffering, a profound reflection emerges regarding the fleeting nature of life and the rapid disappearance of happiness. The days of goodness and joy slip away with astonishing speed, standing in sharp contrast to the long and endless nights of agony endured until now Alternatively, this rapid passage of time represents the general human experience, where the days of a person simply fly by

To illustrate this suddenness, the passage of time is compared to the swift motion found in a weaver's craft. The primary approach among commentators is that this refers to the weaver's tool, which is thrown and glides effortlessly and rapidly from side to side between the warp threads Others suggest the imagery points to the quick, rhythmic act of weaving itself Beneath this physical description lies a deeper conceptual meaning. Just as the warp and weft threads are woven together so quickly that each new thread covers and replaces the one before it, the relentless rush of time causes every new day to erase the day that just passed [מלבי״ם]. On a spiritual level, a person's lifetime is intended to be used for weaving a spiritual garment made of Torah and commandments. There is a deep mourning over the fact that time has slipped away, leaving the individual unable to continue this spiritual work due to overwhelming agony [אלשיך, מלבי״ם].

Ultimately, this journey ends in complete despair, devoid of any expectation for a better future [מצודת ציון]. All anticipation of goodness is gone, replaced by the belief that the illness is too severe for any chance of recovery This absolute hopelessness reveals a deeper philosophical and spiritual crisis, reflecting a belief that the physical body, once returned to dust, will not be resurrected [תקות אנוש]. It also points to a tragic loss of trust in God, brought on by intense anger and complaints over such unbearable pain [אלשיך]. The imagery of the weaver's craft concludes with a profound double meaning, as the idea of hope shares its meaning with a physical thread. Life fades away not only in a state of emotional despair but also like a literal weaving thread that suddenly snaps or runs out, leaving the final garment torn and forever incomplete
