Proverbs 28:5Sefaria

A person's moral choices directly shape their mental and spiritual capacity. A deep divide exists between those who act wickedly and those who seek closeness to God, particularly in how they grasp justice, morality, and divine providence. People who are immersed in doing bad and driven by their desires lose the ability to understand basic principles of honesty and justice. Their constant drive toward wrongdoing creates a moral and intellectual block, preventing their minds from reaching the truth By constantly repeating these negative actions, they completely lose any appreciation for the value of justice [מלבי״ם].

Beyond this moral blindness, these individuals fail to understand the system of divine reward and consequence. They do not realize that their actions will ultimately be judged. When disasters happen to them, they blame blind chance instead of reflecting on their behavior, recognizing the punishment, and changing their ways This lack of awareness prevents them from seeing the broader picture of divine justice. As a result, they might even praise other corrupt people who seem successful, completely unaware that such success is only temporary and is ultimately designed by God to benefit the poor [אלשיך].

In sharp contrast, those who seek God are dedicated to keeping the Torah [רלב״ג, מלבי״ם], strive to imitate their Creator [עמנואל הרומי], and turn to Him in prayer [אבן עזרא]. These individuals achieve a complete understanding of the world around them. Because they are not blinded by harmful desires, and because they are guided by the Torah, they remain open to hearing and accepting objective truths, even when those truths challenge their personal situations

Their clarity of mind allows them to make sense of everything, grasping the true meaning behind both good and bad events [רש״י]. They carefully observe God's involvement in the world, knowing with certainty that a system of reward and punishment exists [עמנואל הרומי]. They recognize that every single event comes from heaven for a justified reason, never dismissing anything as mere coincidence [מצודת דוד]. Through this clear lens, they are able to see the full picture of God's ways, recognizing that His actions are always rooted in perfect justice [אלשיך, מלבי״ם].
