The perfect world created at the dawn of time gives way to a ruined reality. God looks upon His creation and sees it entirely spoiled, much like a potter whose clay vessel has warped in His hands and must be returned to raw material to be formed anew. The great abundance, comfort, and favorable conditions that the earth provided its inhabitants did not inspire gratitude. Instead, this prosperity led to the breaking of all boundaries, the abuse of natural laws, and a deep moral decay. The specific name of God associated with strict justice indicates that the time of judgment has arrived. After a period of mercy and waiting for humanity to correct its path, the quota of sins is full, and the earth itself demands justice
The corruption is multi-dimensional, infecting both the spiritual and physical realms. Spiritually, the world descended into idolatry and heresy, but this decay also seeped into the physical earth. The ground, which was meant to provide food and abundance, lost its strength and its very nature was spoiled as a direct consequence of the inhabitants' actions When considering who exactly was involved in this total decay, commentators offer different perspectives. One approach suggests that the corruption refers exclusively to humans, as only people possess the free will necessary to intentionally rob and destroy However, the primary approach among commentators is that the decay encompassed all living creatures, including beasts and birds. Animals deviated from their natural instincts and began mating with different species. The only creatures spared from this cycle of corruption and the ensuing decree were the fish, as the decay was limited to life on the dry land
The involvement of animals in this unnatural behavior is traced back to human wickedness. People maliciously forced different species of animals to crossbreed until these unnatural pairings became their second nature. Furthermore, because humanity is the crown of creation, its massive sins deeply affected the entire ecosystem. The atmosphere and the natural world became spiritually polluted, dragging even the animals into unnatural desires Every creature abandoned its natural, intended path. This deviation manifested primarily as complete sexual immorality, including incest, relations with animals, and other forbidden practices At the same time, this abandonment of the proper path symbolizes the abuse of free will. Instead of choosing good, humanity used its freedom to trample basic moral laws, engaging in absolute robbery, violence, and the dismantling of social order
The resulting punishment is an exact reflection of the crimes committed. Just as the inhabitants of the world corrupted their paths and their offspring upon the earth, it is decreed that they will be entirely destroyed and wiped off the face of the earth. Moreover, because their sins were driven by the intense heat of unbridled lust and physical desires, they are ultimately judged by floodwaters that are boiling hot
