I Chronicles 7:30Sefaria

Genealogical records typically focus on male descendants, tracing family lines from fathers to sons. Yet, within the family tree of the tribe of Asher, a female figure unexpectedly appears alongside her brothers. This particular lineage continues onward through the generations, eventually reaching Malkiel, the father of Birzaith [רד״ק].

The specific inclusion of their sister, Serah, presents a mystery. The historical record offers no immediate explanation for why she is singled out. There are no details regarding whether she ever married, who her husband might have been, or what ultimately happened to her. Despite this silence, she is a familiar figure who appears earlier in the Torah, and a rich collection of stories surrounds her life [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The traditions of the sages provide the missing background to her character. They explain that Serah was the one who sang to Jacob, gently delivering the joyful news that his son Joseph was still alive. Her singing brought life back to Jacob's broken spirit. In return for this deep comfort, Jacob gave her a unique blessing that she would never face death. Because of his words, she was granted the rare privilege of entering the Garden of Eden while still alive [חומת אנך].
