Isaiah 63:5Sefaria

The time for redemption and justice upon the nations arrives, yet it unfolds in complete isolation. When the moment comes to act, God stands alone in the battle, moving forward not because of human worthiness, but through His own sheer power and profound anger toward those who oppressed His people.

God searches for any human merit among the Israelites that might justify their salvation, but the generation is found completely lacking Naturally, His act of looking is metaphorical, as God requires no physical observation to know the state of the world [אבן עזרא]. Confronted with this stark absence of justification, there is a profound sense of wonder and deep contemplation [מצודת דוד, מצודת ציון, ביאור שטיינזלץ], which some describe as a heavy silence [רש״י]. The total lack of support emphasizes the severe absence of good deeds [מצודת דוד]. Specifically, there is not a single righteous person available to step forward and pray on behalf of the people [מלבי״ם], nor is there anyone to assist God in the impending act of vengeance [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

With no one to help, salvation must come from an entirely different source. God's own power and strength step in to bring about the redemption, bypassing the fact that the Israelites do not possess the proper merit to be saved

In the absence of human merit to support the redemption, God's great anger takes its place as the driving force. This intense anger is directed at the nations. While God was only slightly upset with His people, the surrounding nations took advantage and inflicted suffering far beyond what was necessary. This deep outrage acts as a pillar of support, strengthening His resolve to bring justice to the oppressors and rescue Israel, even if the people themselves are unworthy Ultimately, the only factors propelling this great act of vengeance are God's unmatched strength and His strict judgment against the nations [ביאור שטיינזלץ].
