A time will come when the ultimate symbol of salvation for the people of Israel will undergo a profound transformation. For generations, the Exodus from Egypt stood as the defining moment of national deliverance. However, in the future, a deep shift in consciousness will take place. When people make an oath, they will no longer swear by God who brought them out of Egypt. Instead, they will invoke God who brought them up from the scattered lands of their exile.

This change will occur because the future redemption will be far greater and more significant than the Exodus, naturally claiming the central place in the nation's memory and daily oaths [מצודת דוד, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. There are different views regarding just how absolute this shift will be. Some sages believe the miracles of the Exodus will eventually fade from mention entirely. Others maintain that the Exodus will still be remembered, but it will become secondary, completely overshadowed by the sheer magnitude of the final redemption from the foreign kingdoms [רד״ק].

The harsh reality of the exile is understood as a forceful rejection and expulsion [מצודת ציון], carried out practically by the foreign kings who drove the people away [רד״ק]. Yet, the ultimate promise of redemption culminates in a complete restoration directly into their homeland [מצודת ציון]. While the people making their oaths will speak of this future salvation by describing what God has done for them, God personally steps in to guarantee this restoration, declaring directly that He Himself will bring them back [מצודת דוד].
