איוב, פרק י״ב, פסוק ז׳

Job 12:7Sefaria

Observing the natural world serves as a powerful tool for understanding how God guides the universe. The lessons embedded in creation are so profound that animals themselves act as instructors to humanity. In a moment of sharp rhetoric, Job addresses his companions, arguing that the truths about God are so overwhelmingly clear that even creatures entirely lacking human intellect are capable of teaching them [תקות אנוש].

Every living creature holds a lesson for the careful observer [מצודת ציון, רלב״ג]. The natural world offers two distinct forms of instruction. Observing the beasts provides a systematic type of learning designed to resolve deep doubts, while the birds of the sky convey entirely new, essential knowledge that the listener had not previously grasped [מלבי״ם].

The exact way these creatures impart their wisdom takes several forms. Simply looking at the sheer variety and absolute perfection of the animal kingdom proves that God's wisdom is infinite, far beyond the limits of human investigation or complete understanding [מצודת דוד]. Beyond their physical design, the behavior of these creatures offers a profound lesson about control. Beasts and birds lack free will, operating entirely out of necessity and according to His design. This reality serves as a reminder that humanity, too, is completely subject to the will of God and does not hold absolute power over its own destiny [מלבי״ם].

Taking this observation to a more wondrous level, the animal kingdom also points to the constant, hidden miracles sustaining the world. The beasts hint at the legendary Behemoth of a thousand mountains, which is miraculously sustained each day to survive. Likewise, the birds represent the eagle that wondrously renews its youth and feathers. These extraordinary phenomena reveal God's ultimate power to sustain the soul within the physical body, operating entirely above the standard laws of nature [אלשיך].
