Human understanding is fundamentally limited, often struggling to perceive profound truths that lie hidden just out of sight. A brilliant reality exists behind the veil of the physical world, waiting for a clarifying force to reveal it. In the natural world, the sun is frequently hidden by clouds. Even when obscured, the light remains entirely pure and radiant in its place in the sky [מצודת ציון, רלב״ג]. It is only when a passing wind sweeps away the cloud cover that the skies are cleared, allowing the brilliant light to finally shine through [מצודת דוד, אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This natural phenomenon highlights a deep human vulnerability. If people are unable to gaze directly at the blinding physical sun once the wind clears the sky, they surely cannot expect to behold the supreme light of God, for no human can see Him and survive [רמב״ן]. Moreover, the human mind is so confined that it cannot even fully comprehend the reason behind the brightness of the physical sky, making it entirely incapable of grasping the ultimate wonders of the Creator [תקות אנוש].

Beyond the physical sky, this imagery serves as a sharp critique of Job's companions, who find themselves entirely speechless in the face of Elihu's arguments. They are likened to the unborn who have never experienced the light of true wisdom. Just as promising clouds might gather but are ultimately blown away by the wind without yielding a single drop of rain, the friends began their debate with grand claims but eventually fell silent, empty of any real answers [רש״י].

Approaching the conflict from a different angle, the hidden light represents the absolute truth of God's divine providence. While the friends failed to see this truth, it remains brilliantly clear and undiminished. In this view, the passing wind that clears away the heavy clouds of foolishness and false assumptions is the very force of Elihu's argument, scattering the confusion and finally exposing the truth [מלבי״ם].

Taking the imagery into an allegorical realm, the hidden light reflects the legacy of Moses. Following his passing, the world could no longer witness the divine light as clearly as it did during his lifetime. Yet, his light remains brilliantly illuminated in the upper realms, outshining even the angels. As his soul ascended, a spiritual wind passed through the heavens, purifying them and leaving behind an enduring, powerful glow of holiness [אלשיך].
