Divine wrath erupts like the raw forces of nature to tear down walls of falsehood. The fierce storm, pouring rain, and pounding hail serve as a powerful metaphor for a strong and cruel enemy. This invading force is brought by God to shatter the false prophets and completely wipe out their deceptive messages [מצודת דוד]. Within this tempest, the violent wind itself acts as the physical force that breaks and tears apart these illusions [רד״ק, מלבי״ם]. The ultimate goal of this divine anger is absolute and final destruction [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

The progression of this storm reveals a profound dynamic within God's anger, shifting between inner, pent-up rage and outward, active punishment. The destructive process begins when His internal anger awakens, stirring up a violent wind. This internal fury then moves outward, taking the tangible form of a punishing, torrential rain. Normally, once anger is released through an outward act of punishment, the internal rage calms and settles. In this event, however, God's inner anger does not subside. Instead, it surges again with even greater intensity, freezing the pouring rain into destructive hailstones. These stones strike with renewed internal fury, ensuring that the resulting devastation is absolute and complete [מלבי״ם].
