וְאֵ֨ת כׇּל־מִבְרָחָ֤ו בְּכׇל־אֲגַפָּיו֙ בַּחֶ֣רֶב יִפֹּ֔לוּ וְהַנִּשְׁאָרִ֖ים לְכׇל־ר֣וּחַ יִפָּרֵ֑שׂוּ וִידַעְתֶּ֕ם כִּ֛י אֲנִ֥י יְהֹוָ֖ה דִּבַּֽרְתִּי׃ {פ}

The fulfillment of God's decree against the king and his inner circle is an absolute event from which there is no escape. The destiny of those trying to survive is ultimately divided between violent death and total dispersion.

The primary approach among commentators is that the fleeing groups consist of people, soldiers, or battalions running away either alongside the king, independently, or directly away from him [רד״ק, מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם, שטיינזלץ]. However, alternative perspectives suggest that the escaping group specifically denotes the king's mighty warriors [רש״י בשם התרגום], or even the very people who serve as a place of refuge for the king himself [שטיינזלץ]. Regarding the nature of these forces, the primary approach among commentators views them as the king's armies and battalions. This concept is rooted in the imagery of wings, expressing how a vast military force spreads out and deploys [מצודת ציון, רד״ק, שטיינזלץ]. Others argue that the focus is on physical strength, indicating that the survivors will flee with all their might [רש״י]. Yet another perspective views this group not as military personnel, but as the king's wives and his personal companions [מלבי״ם].

The destiny of all these fleeing individuals is split into two distinct outcomes, a division that resolves and completes earlier prophecies regarding this event [מלבי״ם]. Those who are overtaken and caught by their Chaldean enemies will fall in battle [רד״ק, מצודת דוד]. Meanwhile, those who manage to escape the sword will not find safety. Instead, they will be completely scattered and dispersed in every direction across the world [רש״י, רד״ק, מלבי״ם].

When this devastating decree is fully realized, it will serve as undeniable proof for the people. They will clearly understand that the prophet did not simply invent these warnings. Rather, it was God who issued the decree, and it is He who has brought it to pass [מצודת דוד, רד״ק].
