The future division of the Land of Israel will bring about a profound revolution in the rights of converts. Unlike in previous eras, these individuals will be granted land inheritance absolutely equal to that of the native tribes of Israel. This process involves drawing the new borders and distributing the land for a permanent inheritance [מצודת דוד, רד״ק].
This future allocation marks a significant departure from how the land was divided in the days of Joshua. Historically, converts were not given a portion of the land. The mixed multitude that left Egypt had joined the Israelites only during a time of success and later caused the nation to stumble with the sin of the Golden Calf. In contrast, the converts of the future will earn their inheritance through deep dedication. These individuals attached themselves to the Israelites during the bitter years of exile, accepted the covenant, and endured the nation's suffering. Therefore, it is only just that those who shared in the pain will also share in the abundant good that God will eventually bestow [אברבנאל].
This promise does not apply to those who might try to join during the time of redemption, as converts will not be accepted during the Messianic era. Rather, it refers exclusively to those who converted earlier, during the difficult times of the exile [אברבנאל, מלבי״ם]. These are veteran converts who deeply integrated into the nation, establishing families and raising future generations, ensuring that their children too will receive a share of the land [מלבי״ם].
Their status will be identical to that of native born citizens. They will be considered full Israelites in every possible way, just as if their ancestors had been part of the nation from the very beginning [מצודת ציון, מצודת דוד]. Because they chose to live among the tribes and fully blend into the community [ביאור שטיינזלץ], they are guaranteed to settle and inherit their portions with complete equality directly within the tribal territories.
