At a pivotal moment in the prophetic vision, there is a pause for reflection. The prophet transitions from the profound experience of wading through the miraculous waters of the Temple to grasping their true significance. Before bringing him back to solid ground, the guiding angel calls for his attention to ensure he has fully absorbed the power of the sight before him. The primary approach among commentators is that the angel is checking whether the prophet truly notices how the river is continuously growing and gaining strength [רש״י, מצודת דוד].

This act of seeing, however, is not merely physical but deeply conceptual. The angel wants to know if the prophet has truly understood the vision of the Temple, the Divine Presence resting within it, and the immense blessing that flows from it [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The swelling of the waters carries a profound symbolic weight, illustrating how the future good fortune of Israel will sprout, expand, and spread in a sudden and powerful way [רד״ק, אברבנאל]. On an even deeper level, the waters represent the Torah, faith, and the understanding of God. The angel ensures the prophet grasps the divine wisdom that is destined to flow outward from Jerusalem to the entire world [אברבנאל].

Following this moment of reflection, a physical shift occurs. The angel leads the prophet out of the deep waters and brings him back to the riverbank. They return to the exact spot where they first entered the water [רד״ק, אברבנאל], though some suggest the angel leads him a bit further before bringing him close to the water's edge [מצודת דוד]. This return to dry land carries its own conceptual message. The prophet had just been immersed in deep waters that symbolize the most elevated spiritual and intellectual achievements. By bringing him back to the bank to witness the many trees and fruits growing there, the vision teaches that the ultimate redemption will not be limited to abstract spiritual perfection. Instead, it will also include an abundance of physical goodness, wealth, and material blessing, allowing humanity to reach completeness in both the spiritual and physical realms [אברבנאל].
