David makes a renewed effort to convince Uriah to return home, this time relying on a feast and wine. The intention is that the alcohol will cloud Uriah's judgment. By getting him drunk, the hope is to tempt Uriah into changing his mind, ultimately leading him to go back to his house and be with his wife [מלבי״ם, ביאור שטיינזלץ].
Despite these efforts, the plan falls apart. When evening arrives and Uriah leaves the king's presence, he does not head home. Instead, he goes to sleep in the exact same spot where he rested the night before, staying alongside the rest of the king's servants [מצודת דוד]. In the end, Uriah remains away from his house, leaving David to realize that this latest scheme has completely failed [מלבי״ם].
