Psalms 22:9Sefaria

In moments of deep distress, an individual is asked to take the heavy weight of their worries and transfer it entirely to the Creator. Complete trust and reliance on God serve as the true keys to rescue and spiritual closeness. The core action required is a conscious shifting, or rolling, of one's burdens and prayers directly onto God This can be understood as a defining character trait of someone who naturally and consistently directs their life and requests toward God Alternatively, it represents the specific, active choice to cast one's hope upon Him in a time of need [מלבי״ם, מאירי].

This reliance often takes the form of continuous, repeated pleading. A person holds on tightly in prayer, refusing to let go, begging for mercy even if they feel flawed and unworthy on their own [אלשיך]. Whoever places their trust in God properly and turns to Him is assured that He will rescue them from their troubles The primary approach among commentators is that this rescue happens because God desires the person. God values the one who trusts in Him, listens to their prayers, and actively wants to save them While some commentators firmly reject the idea that this desire flows from the person toward God [אבן עזרא], a minority view does allow for the interpretation that the individual is the one longing for Him [רד״ק].

God's response to these persistent requests is fundamentally different from that of a human king. A human ruler might eventually grant a request simply to silence a bothersome subject and send them away. God, however, acts purely out of love. The very act of pleading, praying, and seeking shelter in Him creates a bond of love and favor. His deepest wish is for those who are distant to return to Him [אלשיך]. History clearly shows that anyone who directs their prayers to God experiences His rescue. Therefore, when a person lifts their eyes to Him in genuine trust, there is a strong expectation that salvation will arrive once again [רד״ק].
