יחזקאל, פרק י״א, פסוק כ״ה

Following an intense prophetic journey, the prophet shares the divine messages he received with the exiled community in Babylon. He speaks to the exiles with two distinct goals in mind. Primarily, his words are meant to offer deep comfort. He reassures the people that God's presence remains with them even in their foreign exile, planting the hope that they will one day return to their homeland [מלבי״ם]. At the same time, this address serves a highly practical purpose. By sharing these words with the exiles, the prophet expects them to relay the messages back to their relatives who are still living in Jerusalem [מצודת דוד].

The prophet holds nothing back, sharing the entirety of the visions and prophecies revealed to him by God. He focuses specifically on the visions from the sixth year of the exile, when he was transported to Jerusalem through a prophetic experience [מצודת דוד]. He details everything he saw and heard regarding the impending judgment of the city and the ultimate destiny of the people, whether they remain in the land or live outside of it [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

His report is completely comprehensive, covering the full sequence of events and symbolic actions he has experienced and performed up to this point. He recounts the incident with the scroll, his time sitting in Tel Aviv, his journey to the valley, and the various symbolic acts involving the brick, lying on his side, the ropes, the wheat and barley, and the sharp sword. He includes all the words of rebuke, culminating in his visionary journey to Jerusalem and his eventual return to Babylon [רד״ק].
