In the future, a tangible presence of God will be established in the very heart of Egypt and along its borders, serving as a lasting symbol of their recognition of Him.
At the center of the country, an altar will be built. The straightforward understanding is that this will be a real, physical place where the Egyptian people themselves will bring sacrifices to God [מצודת דוד, מלבי״ם]. This literal interpretation is supported by later prophetic visions that explicitly mention these future offerings [אבן עזרא]. However, a Midrashic approach offers a contrasting view, suggesting that the concept of an altar actually hints at the downfall and death of the Egyptians [אבן עזרא].
In addition to the altar within the land, a distinct monument will be erected at the Egyptian border. This structure is understood to be a specific type of altar made from a single solid stone [מצודת דוד]. Standing at the edge of the nation, it will serve as a clear sign that God is their God. It acts as a declaration that He will fight their battles, actively protecting the people from any enemy that approaches their borders intending to cause harm [מלבי״ם].
