Without a husband or children of her own, her parents and siblings serve as her core family unit, effectively taking the place of a spouse and offspring [אברבנאל, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

Her plea operates on two distinct levels. First, she asks the spies for a direct guarantee that they will not harm her family themselves. Second, she places an active responsibility on them to shield her relatives from being killed by anyone else during the coming invasion [מלבי״ם]. In making this urgent request, she completely abandons any hope of preserving their homes, wealth, or physical property, focusing entirely on the bare survival of their lives [אברבנאל].

This agreement raises a significant question: how could the spies promise to spare Canaanite residents, an act that seemingly contradicts the direct command of God?
