However, they will only be punished personally for their own stubborn actions. This individual discipline will never cause God to cancel the eternal agreement He made with David and his family line [רד״ק, ביאור שטיינזלץ].

God's lasting kindness serves as a specific guarantee of the royal throne, acting as a continuation of an earlier pledge that His mercy and faithfulness would remain with David [אבן עזרא]. Because of this, God will never completely remove the kingship from David's descendants, nor will He ever wipe out his royal dynasty [רד״ק, אלשיך, מצודת דוד].

God fulfills His commitment with absolute faith, ensuring that He will never go back on the word He gave to David [מצודת דוד]. This guarantees that a king will always emerge from David's family line [רד״ק]. The ultimate right to rule remains permanently reserved for his descendants, and the royal power will be fully restored to them in the days of the Messiah [אלשיך, מצודת דוד].
