The deep bond between humanity and God often reveals itself through an enduring sense of joy and an uplifted spirit, rooted simply in the awareness of His constant presence and care. The primary approach among commentators is that merely mentioning God’s name brings about this continuous happiness, as keeping Him in mind draws down salvation and help [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מצודת דוד]. Another perspective views this happiness as the natural pride of a nation that delights in being associated with, and called by the name of, a great and powerful king [אלשיך].

A fascinating psychological and spiritual distinction is drawn regarding the nature of this happiness [מלבי״ם]. Typically, sudden bursts of excitement are sparked by unexpected events, such as a rare miracle or a surprise discovery. In contrast, people usually feel a mild, routine contentment for the permanent, natural blessings in their lives, like basic physical health. Yet, in the relationship with God, an individual experiences a fresh, sudden thrill every single day over His steady, natural supervision. This feeling is compared to a beloved son who feels a constant, active thrill from the daily, watchful care of his father.

Beyond the joy of His presence, attention is also drawn to God’s boundless kindness and righteousness. By recognizing and relying on the power of His righteousness, people are elevated and rise above the rest of humanity [אבן עזרא, ביאור שטיינזלץ]. This righteousness is understood as a profound divine gift. Even the smallest portion of blessing given directly by God holds far greater value than the most massive wealth a human king could ever bestow upon his subjects [אלשיך]. Furthermore, this kindness reflects a miraculous way God guides the world, granting goodness purely out of His divine nature, completely independent of human actions or worthiness. Because God is infinite, His righteousness is equally without limits, constantly lifting people higher and higher at all times [מלבי״ם].
