בָּר֖וּךְ יְהֹוָ֥ה לְעוֹלָ֗ם אָ֘מֵ֥ן ׀ וְאָמֵֽן׃

After a long outpouring of pain, cries, and difficult questions, a sharp shift occurs, turning toward gratitude and faith. This transition not only closes the immediate prayer but also acts as the official seal for the third of the five sections that make up the Book of Psalms [אלשיך, שטיינזלץ, אבן עזרא, רד״ק].

The primary approach among commentators understands this expression of praise as the voice of the original poet, driven by two complementary ideas. On one hand, it represents a deep acceptance of divine judgment. Even in the face of suffering and the insults of enemies, a wise person follows the example of Job, continuing to bless and thank God for everything He has done [רש״י, אבן עזרא, אלשיך]. On the other hand, this gratitude flows from a vision of the future. Guided by divine inspiration, the poet foresaw the ultimate redemption and the return of the exiles. Because of his absolute certainty that salvation will arrive regardless of how long the current exile lasts, he offers his thanks to God in advance [רד״ק, אבן עזרא, מאירי].

A different perspective suggests that this concluding praise was not part of the original composition at all. Instead, it was added by the scribe who compiled and finalized this section of the book. Just as writers often do upon completing a major task, the scribe paused to thank God for providing the strength needed to finish the work [רד״ק, אבן עזרא].

The declaration that God is blessed forever highlights that His blessing is eternal, spanning across all eras [אלשיך]. Affirming this praise with a declaration of truth serves as a seal, confirming that God is indeed worthy of all glory. Repeating this affirmation strengthens and emphasizes its absolute certainty [מצודת דוד]. Furthermore, this double confirmation is seen by some as a subtle reference to two distinct periods of future redemption, reflecting an earnest prayer for both to be hastened [אלשיך].
