Genesis 7:16Sefaria

The final moments before the floodwaters fell marked a dramatic boundary between a world on the brink of destruction and the beginning of a remarkable rescue. As the time came to board the Ark, a massive gathering of wildlife took place. The primary approach among commentators is that the animals arrived entirely on their own through a miracle Knowing he was unfamiliar with every species on earth, Noah intentionally left the door open, fearing he might shut it before all the creatures had safely entered. Only when the entire gathering was complete did the door finally close However, an alternative perspective suggests that Noah took a more active role, personally bringing the animals inside as commanded [רמב״ן] and carefully guiding each species to its designated section [רד״ק]. Regardless of how they boarded, they arrived in exact pairs of one male and one female This strict pairing applied even to species of birds where a single male naturally mates with a large flock of females [מלבי״ם].

Once the animals were safely inside, a direct act of divine intervention took place. God sealed the Ark, functioning as a protective shield around Noah This divine closure provided several necessary layers of defense. On a physical level, a human being could never completely waterproof a light wooden structure against the catastrophic force of the impending storm. While Noah closed the door from the inside, God provided a flawless seal from the outside. He ensured not a single tiny hole would open and not a drop of water would penetrate, even sealing the entrance with His great name so it could not be breached

Beyond the raging waters, the sealing of the Ark protected Noah from other severe dangers. Outside, the wicked people of that generation attempted to break into the structure and overturn it, but God surrounded the Ark with bears and lions to fend off and eliminate the attackers Inside the Ark, God guarded Noah from the dangerous predators living in close quarters with him, shutting their mouths so they would cause no harm Ultimately, this act highlights God's mercy and personal providence. Even though Noah fulfilled his responsibilities by building the Ark, his true survival was a result of divine grace. God actively separated him from a doomed world, shielding him from all destruction to preserve the future of humanity
