I Kings 14:13Sefaria

Amidst the impending doom of a royal dynasty, one child stands apart. While the rest of Jeroboam's family is destined for complete destruction without even the dignity of a grave [רלב״ג], his son is granted a final kindness. He alone is given the honor of public mourning and a peaceful burial [ביאור שטיינזלץ].

This unique privilege is granted because of a specific goodness identified within him, marking his positive actions toward God [ביאור שטיינזלץ]. The presence of this goodness is viewed as a rare discovery, as he was the only member of his household who possessed any redeeming qualities, in stark contrast to the rest of his family

Although the exact nature of his positive action remains unstated, traditional sources link it to the pilgrimage to Jerusalem. His father, Jeroboam, had placed guards and roadblocks along the highways to stop the Israelites from traveling to the Temple for the holidays. Defying this decree, the son either dismantled these roadblocks entirely [רד״ק], or he abandoned his own post as a guard and made the pilgrimage himself [רש״י, מצודת דוד]. On a deeper level, this singular act of goodness is understood as the perfect fulfillment of a single Commandment, which alone is enough to secure a person's place in the World to Come [חומת אנך].

However, this positive act does not mean he was entirely without fault. It is likely that he was still tainted by many sins and wrongdoings. The evidence for this lies in the nature of his reward, which was limited to an honorable burial. Had he been completely righteous, his reward would have been far greater, such as living to inherit his father's throne [רלב״ג].
