Isaiah 49:18Sefaria

Zion, feeling abandoned, desolate, and forgotten, is suddenly awakened to witness a miracle that turns her sadness into glory. She is urged to look in all directions, rather than just one, because her scattered children are arriving suddenly from all four corners of the earth [מלבי״ם, רד״ק]. This return involves two distinct, massive miracles: the very act of gathering the people from their vast exile, and their successful physical journey to Jerusalem across immense distances [מלבי״ם]. The primary approach among commentators is that this gathering focuses entirely on these returning children, though a rejected view suggests it refers instead to the downfall of enemies [אבן עזרא]. To ease any fear that Jerusalem might be too small to hold everyone, God makes an absolute oath. Just as God lives and exists, His promise is an eternal decree that will never be undone

The ruined and empty city of Jerusalem is compared to someone who is bare and exposed, with the newly arriving residents acting as the clothing that covers her. However, these returning children are not ordinary garments; they are compared to beautiful jewelry They are honored leaders and wise individuals who serve as a glorious ornament that Zion will wear with deep pride On a deeper level, this jewelry represents the return of the spiritual crowns of freedom and kingship that the Israelites lost long ago after the sin of the Golden Calf at Mount Sinai [אהבת יהונתן].

The bond formed between Jerusalem and her returning children is likened to a bride lovingly tying silk threads and decorative ribbons around her neck or in her hair There is a profound difference between a regular woman and a bride. While an ordinary woman might wear her fine jewelry only on special occasions, a bride is constantly adorned. This reveals that the children and the sparks of holiness will return to Jerusalem permanently, never to leave again [אדרת אליהו]. Just as a bride carefully guards the jewelry given to her by her groom as a symbol of their engagement, tying it securely so it is never lost, Jerusalem will bind her children to herself in a strong, unbreakable knot. This serves as a lasting symbol of the eternal covenant between Israel and God [מלבי״ם, שד״ל]. Ultimately, in the future, God will remove the evil inclination entirely, leaving the nation free from any flaw, exactly like a pure and perfect bride [אהבת יהונתן].
